Corinne Dodenhoff (@blackdress.wildheart), Lead Designer and girl of a different color (literally, she rocks a new hair color every week) is a jewelry lover among her long list of creative hobbies. You may recognize her from her rad and inspiring Curvy Warrior posts or from her lifestyle blog Black Dress Wild Heart. In addition to these on the Gypsy Warrior blog, she’ll be your main Do It Yourself dame! Check out her latest project below and transform your #GypsyJewels with these trend setting tricks.

I’ll be honest, I used to hate jewelry. I used to have such a hard time figuring out what piece went with each outfit that I gave up on the entire idea. As I got older, I realized that accessories are the perfect way to play with an outfit in a fun but subtle way.

I do, however, try to keep my collection modest; if I could, I would buy every sparkly thing that caught my eye but in reality it’s a lot easier (and a lot more fun!) to be crafty with your jewels! Here are four ways to re-purpose your jewelry for a new spin on your old faves!

CUFF

I love a good cuff! It’s super boho and fabulous. For all the long-haired gals out there, a cute way to show off your cuffs without stacking them on your arm is as a ponytail or a bun wrap. You can really do this with any bracelet that is sturdy, such as a leather wrap, but I think cuffs are a real statement. Bonus points: match the cuff detailing to your hair like I did here!

EARRINGS

I have so many stud earring sets that sometimes I wish I had more holes in my ears! Then I remember that I can just use them as pins and give them (and my outfit) a preppy, edgy twist. My fave way to use them is as collar pins, or as cuff links! Bonus points: you can use a single, lone earring (don’t act like you don’t have a pile of them on your dresser) as a pin on a beanie, shirt pocket, or even on your bulletin board as a fancy thumbtack!

CHOKER

Whether it’s a concho choker, spiked collar, or chainmail wrap you can transform one of your fave chokers into a boot wrap that gives your shoes a super-punk 80’s vibe. (Just take one peep at Bender’s shoes in The Breakfast Club for major inspo!) Bonus points: for vagabond wanderer vibes layer up necklaces with your extra bandanas.

RINGS

I have weird, stubby baby hands. I also get jewelry as gifts quite often. When this happens, and I receive rings that don’t fit, I use them as bolo ties for bandanas! It’s very on-trend with Southwestern fashion, and SO easy to do. Simply put the bandana around your neck, take the two loose ends and thread them through the ring. Pull the ring tight, knot the bandana ends and wiggle the ring on top of the knot so it doesn’t go anywhere! Bonus points: you don’t just have to use bandanas! A silk scarf with a bejeweled ring can be a badass update to a chic standard.
